Easy Check-in & Check-out

Users can easily check in and out of stations using a simple process. Select the station, vehicle, set battery state of charge, checkout time, and reminder preference. The system will automatically calculate the cost estimate based on the duration of use and the station’s pricing structure, as well as 1 token for use of the app. Users can select the number of hours or set a specific checkout time. The state of charge is used to estimate the power consumption and provide a retroactive cost per kWh. Session costs are entirely time-based, whereas the cost per kWh is for informational purposes only after the fact and is only an estimate based on what the user has reported as their state of charge before and after each session.

Checking out is just as straightforward. If the user has set a reminder, they respond to the reminder which opens the app. They return to their vehicle and unplug the charging cable. They end their session by reporting their ending state of charge and then review their session summary.

If there is an issue with the session, the user can contact the station owner via email to discuss the issue. Station owners have the option to allow specific stations to permit users to adjust their check-in and check-out times upon checkout. This is useful for dedicated stations where there is a high level of trust between the station owner and user and the user requires delayed check-in or check-out times for their specific use case. This feature is disabled by default and must be enabled by the station owner.

Use Cases for Adjusted Check-in and Check-out

This feature is particularly useful in situations where the station is located at a designated parking space and is exclusive to a specific user. For example, a user might wish to use their vehicle’s onboard scheduler to start and stop charging during off-peak hours (e.g., midnight to 8 am). Once programmed into the vehicle, the user will plug their vehicle in before midnight, and the vehicle will start charging at midnight and stop at 8 am. The user can then check in and out of the station at their convenience and adjust the duration later. This feature is not intended for public stations where the user is required to check in and out of the station at the exact time of use.
