Terms of Service Setup

This is not legal advice.

Setting up a Terms of Service (ToS) for your EVnSteven charging station is one of the most important things you can do as a station owner. It protects you, sets clear expectations for your users, and gives you legal backing if things ever go sideways.

Why a Terms of Service is Essential

The ToS outlines how your station may be used, any fees or penalties, and the user’s responsibilities when charging. If your building has official bylaws or rules, align your ToS with them — consistency makes enforcement a lot easier. Clear terms mean fewer disputes, and users who can’t follow the rules are better off finding a public station.

Terms of Service Placeholder

When you first create a station, a placeholder notice is shown in place of your Terms of Service. This is not a real Terms of Service — it simply alerts both parties that an official ToS has not yet been added. Without it, the confirmation email sent to each party upon check-in would be empty.

You should replace this placeholder with a real Terms of Service before inviting users to your station. Have a legal professional draft one tailored to your station, your building’s rules, and your local regulations.

Steps to Finalize Your Terms of Service

  1. Consult a legal professional to draft a ToS tailored to your station’s specific needs and local regulations
  2. Edit it to cover your situation, including:
    • Pricing and payment terms
    • Rules for station use (e.g., time limits)
    • Penalties for violations (e.g., overstaying, damage)
    • User responsibilities
  3. Add it to your station by pasting the plain text into the Terms of Service field

You can update your ToS at any time. When you do, users are automatically notified at the start of their next session and must agree before continuing. A copy of every update is emailed to each party — a permanent record for everyone’s peace of mind.
