The Cost of Distrust

Trust people first. Make honesty easy. Don’t punish an entire community because someone might cheat.
Imagine spending $10,000 on equipment to prevent someone from stealing $10 worth of electricity.
Absurd? Yet this is often how we approach shared EV charging in apartments and condominiums.
We install expensive meters, charging stations, and payment systems because we’re worried someone might take more than their fair share.
But what if we simply trusted people?
Most EV drivers need only a dollar or two of electricity per day. With a regular electrical outlet and a little honesty, neighbours can share that electricity without expensive infrastructure.
That’s why we built EVnSteven.
Drivers record how long they charge. Our software calculates what they owe. They pay the electricity owner directly.
Could someone cheat? Of course.
But should everyone else have to pay thousands of dollars to prevent that possibility?
Trust isn’t a technological limitation. It’s a choice.
And sometimes, the smartest solution isn’t more technology.
It’s more humanity.
