Finding Our Tribe in a Sea of EV Drivers

Finding Our Tribe in a Sea of EV Drivers

We launched a newsletter. And if you’re reading this, you’re exactly the kind of person we built it for.

Here’s the honest version of why.

Millions of EV Drivers, Almost None of Them Are Ours

There are millions of EV drivers now, and the number keeps climbing. On the surface that sounds like great news for us. In reality, it’s complicated.

Most EV drivers plug in at home in their garage. Some charge at work. Others use public fast chargers. The EV industry has spent billions building infrastructure, apps, and loyalty programs to serve those people — and to lock them in.

We’re not for any of those people.

EVnSteven is for the EV driver who lives in an apartment, condo, strata building, or HOA — someone who parks in a shared lot, charges from a regular outlet, and depends on their neighbours not being jerks about it. That’s a specific kind of person. Someone who understands trust. Someone who values fairness over flashy hardware. Someone who looked at a $10,000 charger install quote and thought “there has to be a better way.”

Finding that person through ads? Nearly impossible.

We Can’t Win a Spending War

We’ve tried paid ads. The problem is we’re bidding on the same keywords as Tesla, ChargePoint, Electrify America, and dozens of other companies that are willing — sometimes eager — to lose hundreds of millions of dollars in pursuit of owning your charging behaviour. They’re not trying to make money right now. They’re trying to make you dependent on their ecosystem before you realize you have a choice.

We can’t outspend them. We’re not going to try.

What we can do is talk directly to the people who already understand that EV charging doesn’t have to be complicated or expensive. The people who’ve already figured out that a standard outlet and a little bit of trust go a long way.

We’re Learning to Use Email

We’ve been reading Just Fcking Send It* — a book about getting out of your own head and actually shipping things, communicating with your audience, and building real relationships instead of chasing algorithms. One message kept landing: email is the only channel where you own the relationship. No feed. No bidding war. No platform deciding whether your post gets seen.

That’s what we want. A direct line to the people who get what we’re building.

The newsletter won’t be full of product announcements and fake urgency. It’ll be honest updates on where we’re at, what we’re learning, stories from the community, and occasionally a question or idea we want your input on.

Why Sign Up Even If You Already Use EVnSteven

If you’re already using the app, you might be thinking: what’s in it for me?

A few things.

You’ll shape what we build. We’re small. When a real user tells us something isn’t working, or suggests a feature, it gets heard. The newsletter is a two-way door — we’ll use it to ask you things too.

You’ll understand the EV landscape better. The EV world is moving fast and it’s full of noise. We cut through the stuff that doesn’t apply to apartment and condo dwellers and focus on what actually matters for your situation. Not the latest luxury EV launch. Not fast charger networks you can’t use. The real stuff.

You’ll be part of something we think is worth building. We believe the future of EV charging in multifamily housing doesn’t require a hardware arms race. It requires communities that trust each other and tools that don’t get in the way. That’s the tribe we’re trying to find. If that resonates, we’d love to have you in the room.

Sign up below. We’ll try to make it worth your time.

One note: the newsletter is in English only for now. We hope to offer it in more languages as we grow — but if English isn’t your first language and you still want in, you’re more than welcome. Google Translate does a decent job.
