20,000 days

20,000 days

I haven’t written in a while.

On September 16, my cat Saibo died.

He was 16.

He was with me through some of the hardest years of my life. He was there when I lost my mom and dad.

He moved with me from Vancouver to Calgary, Dana Point, Victoria, back to Vancouver, and twice to Puerto Escondido, Mexico.

This is where he retired.

And this is where he’s buried, in the garden outside the house I’m renting.

I thought we’d have more time.

I’m 56 now. I’ve lived about 20,000 days.

My parents lived about 28,000.

Losing Saibo made me think (again) very hard about what I want to do with the days I have left.

I’ve decided I want to devote a big part of them to animal welfare, especially cats.

I’ve already started building something new.

EVnSteven isn’t going away. I’ll continue to run it and take care of the people who use it.

But my priorities have changed.

Saibo was family.

And losing him has brought more of me into the world.

I’ll tell you about what I’m building soon.

Thanks for still being here.
