Mekonnen Alemu
Ethiopia
I’m Mekonnen. I build EVnSteven — if you’ve used the app, you’ve used something I wrote.
I don't ship work I'm not proud of
If it’s slow, or awkward, or nearly right, it isn’t finished. I’d rather hold something back a week than put my name on it early.
I take the hard ones
My line is that I build the apps other developers say can’t be done. I’ve been saying it for six years and I haven’t had to take it back yet.
This app is mine
I’ve led EVnSteven since 2023. Every screen you touch and the billing underneath it. I know exactly how it works, because I built it.
How I got here
I work from Ethiopia, and I’ve built software for teams across the US, the UK, Canada, Germany, Israel, and Saudi Arabia. Different countries, different industries, same standard every time: it has to be fast, it has to be obvious to use, and it has to work.
I’ve also spent years teaching, to an audience of a couple hundred thousand other developers. Teaching is the quickest way to find out whether you genuinely understand something or only think you do. It keeps me honest.
David hired me for one week. We’ve been business partners ever since.
What that means for you
When something in the app doesn’t behave the way you expect, it reaches me. Not a support queue — me. I’ll want to know, and I’ll want to fix it properly rather than paper over it.
I care about this app more than is strictly reasonable. That’s what you get from a company this small, and it’s the part of the job I like most.
